Is the Singer Scholastic Model 717 only a zig zag sewing machine?

I have recently bought a Singer scholastic model 717 sewing machine. I have been fiddling around with it for about 10 minutes and I just can’t figure out why it’s only sewing in a zig zag pattern. I an not really familiar with sewing machines but enough to know how to ” some what ” work them. If it’s not just a Zig zag sewing machine how do I change the settings?

You need to get a manual. If the machine uses cams, there may be one inserted (open top of machine) and that is the reason you cannot make any other stitch.
